The girl with the broken smile… why is it so easy to identify with that line?
Why would we all like someone who says they “want to make her feel beautiful”? Because perhaps we all carry some hurt inside, some form of pain. This may be the prime reason chick-flicks and sappy songs are so popular: it is a playful outlet for pain and a hidden source of false hope. Very few get a “fairytale princess” romance, and even if we do it usually doesn’t last beyond the honeymoon stages.

In the mean time, there is no shame in hoping for someone who will stand out in the pouring rain.
If you’ve just lost or ended a relationship, there is no shame in grieving it and hoping for a better ‘next time’. Perhaps that’s another reason for sappy songs: getting over heart-break.
