Dating through the Blah’s

Not every day is like a trip to fairy tale island for most people trying to combine regular life with dating. Work, family and social commitments can start wearing us down so much that a trip (i.e. running away from it all without your date) seems like the only temporary quick fix. This also seems to be the season for it. While some of my friends have traveled south to Mexico, others are scouting Las Vegas hotels the next two weeks. Yet another friend skipped our lunch date, and town, to meet her long-distance beau in Denver.

The Big Date
Matters only get worse if someone (perhaps someone you’re dating) you’d love to jet off into space with starts dangling a tempting mini-vacation in front of you. Trips are the ultimate date and although you may be so lucky to actually be invited on a trip, what if this proposition comes at the worst possible time? What if you then realize, there really hasn’t been a “good time” in a while, because there is always something. OK, yes… I am living through the “blahs” right now. I could be on a beach somewhere, but somehow I can’t tear myself away from work. My performance hasn’t been stellar lately, and marathon dating for 4 days wouldn’t help the matter.

The mini date
Being the problem solver I try to be I’d still like to try and find a solution. To me, a great solution - if you are living the same level of nightmare as I am - is to go on a day trip. Even stay over one night somewhere, but that way there isn’t too much pressure of going away for longer. It also limits the distance, so in case of a disaster you are home in a few hours. Flying somewhere overseas complicates that matter, and frankly… I personally would not be able to relax that way. Basically it means what would be meant to relax me could accumulate only more stress.

Although I hate being a trip(party)pooper, I’d love to find a way to go somewhere and banish my blahs for a day, maybe two…
