Anyone participating in any sort of web 2.0 activity (i.e. you are an addicted blogger, such as my husband) means you are at one point or another looking at different options and trying to make a web hosting choice. As I was helping my husband choose a webhost the other day, I was sorting through literally hundreds of different plans and companies. While one offered more bandwidth, the other offered more storage space, and on went the comparison.

Odly enough, writing down the priorities and trying to find “a perfect match” I couldn’t help but compare it to finding a mate. We’re always compromising; whether looking for prince charming or a perfect match for your website, life is a balancing act. Weighing pros and cons and making lists with priorities are everywhere in life. Thus, one would think most people should be able to recognize the perfect match when it hits them in the face, right?

Maybe not so much. Everyone makes mistakes. From choosing the wrong partner, to finding a better webhost after you’ve signed up elsewhere. Some mistakes are easier to fix than others though, but I’d say: set your priorities and don’t settle until you find the match that is perfect for you (or your website!)

I love being “just married”; everyone is still excited for you and long-time married friends envy that newly wed passion and stickiness we’re hoping to maintain throughout the many future anniversaries.
I am even enjoying the mundane little annoying things couples have to do day to day. For example, we are now shopping around for International Health InsuranceWe’re trying to find medical insurance that will keep us covered if we end up going overseas for a while. This is becoming quite the possibility, but I won’t say anything else just yet!
Basically, getting a free quote is a must. I am a woman, I need to shop around! My husband is cheap, so he needs to know what is the best deal (now mind you, the cheapest option is not always the best deal!). So, instead of shopping for shoes, I am not shopping for insurance.

I have to say it is more tedious and less glamorous than conventional shopping. Therefore, it is nice when you find a company that is committed to keeping things simple and easy, like this one. Nobody appreciates being drowned in technical mumbo-jumbo, which usually equates to not fully understanding the terms and eventually being drowned in medical bills. That’s why I will not even consider a company that does not give me the details in straight English, and without fine print! After all, before we get those benefits I am not buying extra strong reading glasses to even see the fine print.

I particularly like about the company I mentioned earlier that you get to choose from a list of worldwide hospitals and clinics. So the plan works anywhere and everywhere, which works out fantastic if you are expecting to go to different countries. Having a list of places to go to, you can actually plan in advance in case you need medical attention. This should also cut down and simplify the paperwork usually involved with medical claims.

In addition, I like companies that offer flexibility: there are three plans to choose from with BUPA, so there is much appreciated flexibility.

My name is Emily, and I am a newly-wed. In the year preceding the wedding I was so busy planning the one day on which Murphy’s law was let loose, that I had absolutely zero plans or expectations for any days after the honeymoon.

So, here i am now. Married to a man who is fantastic, but also a chronic workaholic. He has a regular day job, and in the evenings he blogs (who doesn’t). He is quite obsessed though with taking his blogs to the next level, and making serious money with them, that he loses all track of time. He is focused only on this task, and I am starting to think I never got married at all. I used to see him more when we were dating, and before we actually started living in the same house.

I’m no stranger to technology, and I’ve started observing hubby-dear. I’ve made a point of dragging another desk into his office, so I can spend a few hours a day co-blogging with him (and spend some silent time together, otherwise I’d never see him). I also noticed he spends far too much time on the technical side of his websites, and the trouble he is getting from the hosting company. Tonight, I’m going to suggest dedicated hosting as a possible solution. If he would only start using some of the money he is making to outsource the things he has most trouble with, then at least he could focus on the things he is good at.

With a bit of luck, it leaves some time for the relationship. We’ll see.. he is a man, so by definition he is (he thinks) always right.

Sinatra famously crooned, “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere,” and while he was presumably talking about professional success, he just as easily could’ve been bemoaning the difficulties of New York dating. The 24/7 availability and market saturation that characterizes our grocery stores applies to men and women. Do I go to the deli on the corner or the one down the block? OK, I know how that title sounds but this does not include any sort of item you get at an adult store. A very personal gift can be something you know your significant other dearly wishes for, but hasn’t bought for himself.

In my case, this special gift would be a grandfather clock. My husband grew up going to his grandparents house and playing in front of this large grandfather clock. Anyhow, unfortunately there was a fire many years ago that destroyed part of the grandparent’s house, and turned the clock into fire wood. It turns out, his grandparents were going to leave the clock to him after their death, and ever since he found out he’s wanted to get a clock like that as a memory of his childhood.

I’ve been poking around gathering some information, because although I don’t mind the thought of an old fashion clock as a furniture piece, I do mind some of the designs. I’ve been trying to find a clock design I can agree with, but that is still close enough to the one on the old pictures gracing our scrap books.

I’d rather get him an antique pocket watch, because it is clearly more compact than a grandfather clock, but I know what he’s really set on having. I considered it as a wedding present, but then decided to keep it shelved for a while. I’m now thinking it may look nice with a pink valentine’s day bow! Maybe next year. I’m still trying to read up on it more on Grandfather Clocks Blogs.
